Your home for Horror in all its forms. Discussion and analyses of Films, Games, Books, ARG’s – just about anything spooky.

Why Horror?

Aside from being an avid fan of the macabre from a very young age, I believe horror to be one of the most revealing genres in regard to societal beliefs and context. During my time at university, I read a lot into Jefferey Jerome Cohen’s Monster Theory for my dissertation and realised just how much our social norms impact what is considered to be frightening. I hope to bring this perspective into my writings throughout this blog. As a feminist, much of my discussion will also come from that angle, when appropriate.

As a side-note, I also tend to like my horror in a multitude of medias – I didn’t want to just write about films or books or games. Each of these mediums have excellent, thought provoking examples of the genre, and I wanted the opportunity to write about all of my favourite ones. Choosing to stick to just one medium felt like forcing myself into a box, so I decided to keep this blog a bit more ‘general’ in order to give myself some flexibility. Hopefully, this kind of approach might introduce you to something new, too!

About the Author

I’m Jordan. I’m a 23 year old English Literature Graduate, and I started this blog during lockdown. Since leaving Uni, I hadn’t realised how much I missed writing every day! My favourite films are Midsommar, The VVitch, Princess Mononoke and The Fly. My favourite games are Fallout and Stardew Valley, and my favourite books are Lemony Snicket’s Series of Unfortunate events and Junji Ito’s Uzumaki.

Outside of spooky things, I enjoy hiking, baking and roller-skating.
